Analog Devices’ MEMS IMU Enables CHC Navigation's Pocket RT
Analog Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADI) today announced its high-precision inertial measurement unit (IMU) has been selected by CHC Navigation to enable its next generation, real-time kinematic (RTK) rover receiver, which can achieve high-precision and high-efficiency positioning and measurement at any position through the combination of satellite and inertial positioning.
RTK rover receivers are widely used in the fields of autonomous driving, construction surveying, and conventional mapping. The 3-D coordinates of the rover are calculated in real time according to the relative positioning principle and based on the signals received from satellites and those observed by reference stations. Most RTK products on the market rely on geomagnetic calculations to measure the dip angle. This method, however, is highly susceptible to external environment interference. Most RTKs containing IMUs are also large, heavy and susceptible to ambient temperature. CHC Navigation, a leader in high-precision satellite positioning, adopted ADI's high-precision IMU in its latest pocket RTK to effectively resolve these issues and make the portable RTK more efficient and reliable, resulting in high-precision positioning in complex environments with dip angle range as wide as ±60°.
"The next generation RTK reduces equipment size while keeping IMUs integrated to improve performance, efficiency and position accuracy, which is made possible by ADI’s high- performance IMU technology,” said Jialin Zhang, Project Manager at CHC Navigation. “We are very happy to work with ADI to develop more cutting-edge products."
ADI's IMU combines the precision gyroscope and accelerometer on multiple axes, which can reliably sense and process data with multiple degrees of freedom even in extremely complicated applications and dynamic conditions. This module solution includes complete factory calibration, embedded compensation, and sensor processing, as well as simple programmable ports. Excellent precision, stability, compact size and low power, make ADI's IMU ideal for high-precision positioning and navigation applications.
"ADI has decades of solid expertise in inertial measurement,” said Tony Zarola, General Manager of Inertial MEMS and Sensor Technologies Group at Analog Devices. “Each high-precision IMU, no matter the size, undergoes several hours of temperature calibration in the factory and thoroughly covers the measurements and compensation of parameters related to zero point sensitivity, cross-sensitivity, and acceleration. The structure, package, and process design of the core sensor in ADI's IMUs take long-term stability into account and provide continuing reliability for our customers’ products."
